Obituary for Shirley Raper (Linker)

Shirley Raper (Linker)
Shirley Ann Raper, 84 of Sparta, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017, at her residence.

Born Monday, April 3, 1933 in Durham, North Carolina, she was the daughter of Worth Linker and Roebiner Evans Linker. She was the wife of William Raper.

If you were to ask Shirley what she would be remembered by, she would reply, “Well, I’d like it to be the Lord but it will probably be my biscuits.” The truth of it is, it’s actually both. The achievements that many today would list regarding education and profession were not her passion. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and His people with a pure and genuine Christ-like love. First she was a beloved wife and mother to her family and the fruit of her labor is evident in the amazing character and love her family demonstrates to all people and one another. Next she was a servant to God’s people in any and every way there was a need. Her ministry included a small church group in Sparta, TN where she taught bible studies and held church services. She was known for the best hospitality; not only in cooking but opening her home to countless friends and strangers. She accepted all those the world and church rejected by ministering in Tennessee Women’s Prison and volunteering to teach youth at a drug and alcohol rehab center and lovingly supporting the whole Body of Christ in all denominations. She was an humble leader of the Cloistered Hearts Order of Brothers and Sisters who live simple lives rooted in scripture and take as their call a life of prayer. There is so much more that space and time cannot allow. Yet, if you were to ask any one who knew her, they would say her greatest achievement was love. All testify that she loved them like no other and it was this self sacrificial love that brought many to know Jesus and serve Him with the same chrism she did.

Survivors include;
Her husband, William "Bill" Raper of Sparta
Sons,
Oren Raper (Jeanne) of Denver, North Carolina
Charles Raper of Greenville, Tennessee
Kenneth Raper (Kim) of Mooresville, North Carolina
Timothy Raper of Sparta
Daughter, Holly (Ron) Smith of Sparta
and many grandkids and great grandkids.

Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 4pm until 8pm on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the funeral home.
