The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Ronald Fanning can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Obituary for Ronald Fanning

Ron Fanning was a doer, never content to just sit still. He was meticulous and organized and these served him well. He joined the USAF at 19. After training he was assigned to Barksdale AFB in Louisiana only to be sent to Homestead AFB south of Miami to wait on the missiles to come from Cuba. Fortunately for our country we avoided nuclear war.

Ron was a quick learner and soon the Air Force saw his potential and began training him for every job possible in his career field. He was quickly promoted and served in Viet Nam through the cold war. He was invaluable in Europe and trained many of the elite airmen that go to forward operating bases.

In Germany he met a fellow airman, Jeanne, and married while stationed there. Ron retired from the military in Greece and went on to work in the private sector for another 20 years. His experience and knowledge made him a great asset wherever he worked.

Ron was the son of James and Emma Fanning and had 2 older brothers, Bill and Jimmy who also served. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jeanne Fanning. He had six children; Keith, LeAnn, Ron, Kate, Andrew and Sarah. He had 6 grandchildren and 2 great children.

We will miss his kindness and generous heart.

Memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 12pm until the time of service.
